Worker indicted on embezzlement charges

BALTIMORE (AP) — An employee for a food service company has been indicted on charges of embezzling more than $400,000.

A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted 43-year-old Cesar Raphael Barretto of Severn on nine counts of wire fraud.

According to the indictment, Barretto worked for U.S. Foods Inc., helping customers place orders. Prosecutors say Barretto defrauded American Pollo Restaurant Group, a customer of U.S. foods, by diverting more than $400,000 in payments to the account of another customer, a bakery.

The indictment alleges that Barretto sold the products he obtained with the embezzled funds to a restaurant in Laurel.
