Free agent minor league pitcher suspended 72 games

NEW YORK (AP) — Free agent minor league pitcher Francisco Almonte has been suspended 72 games without pay for a positive drug test.

Major League Baseball said Friday the right-hander tested positive for a metabolites of stanozolol, a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of the minor league drug prevention and treatment program.

Almonte’s suspension takes effect immediately once he signs with another major league organization.
