FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (AP) — Residents in a Prince George’s County neighborhood devastated by a landslide earlier this year are supporting a $15.5 million county plan to demolish some of the affected homes and save the rest.

Under the plan, six of the 28 homes in the Piscataway Hills development would have to be demolished, while 22 would be saved. A road would be repaired and an eroding slope would be shored up.

The county had presented the proposal to residents last month.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/1prGHNC ) that the county has committed $11 million to the project, and is still casting about to find the remaining money needed. Members of the Save Piscataway Hills group say they will help the county find the remaining funds.

Heavy rains in May triggered the landslide.
