Man cited after gun found in bag at Va. airport

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A Virginia Beach man has been cited after security officers found a loaded handgun in a carry-on bag at Norfolk International Airport.

The Transportation Security Administration says it’s the seventh gun caught by the agency’s officers at the airport’s security checkpoint this year.

The agency said Thursday in a news release that the 9mm gun was detected Wednesday by a security officer staffing a checkpoint X-ray machine. The gun was loaded with seven rounds. One round was in the weapon’s chamber.

Airport police cited the man on a state weapons charge and confiscated the gun.
