Hokies look to return to staples: running and D

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — It’s a year of change at Virginia Tech, and the Hokies hope it is for the better.

Coach Frank Beamer’s In his 28th training camp, coach Frank Beamer is trying to determine a successor for quarterback Logan Thomas, with Texas Tech transfer Michael Brewer and Mark Leal battling for the job.

Virginia Tech also is hoping to support whoever starts by getting back to a reliable running game behind Trey Edmunds and J.C. Coleman.

The Hokies have been able to count on their defense.

The unit features a Luther Maddy and Dadi Nicholas up front and one of the nation’s top secondaries with seniors Kyshoen Jarrett and Detrick Bonnor and sophomores Kendall Fuller and Brandon Facyson.

The foursome accounted for 15 of Virginia Tech’s 19 interceptions a season ago.
