WASHINGTON (AP) — A man who prosecutors say forced his way into a woman’s home and tried to sexually assault her has been convicted.

A Washington jury on Tuesday convicted 39-year-old Omar Rimmer of Washington of attempted sexual assault, kidnapping and other offenses. Sentencing is set for Oct. 24.

According to government evidence, in February 2011, Rimmer pushed his way into a woman’s home as she was going inside.

Prosecutors say Rimmer choked the victim and tried to remove her clothes. Authorities say when the woman screamed, Rimmer let her go and she locked herself in a room.

Prosecutors say Rimmer was identified by DNA from a cigarette butt and scarf that he left when he ran out of the home.
