Teen dies after falling from moving car

WASHINGTON – An area teen has died after after falling off the back of a car in a Sterling parking lot – a stunt that investigators think he saw in a movie.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department says that 17-year-old Mohammad Khalid of Sterling died Friday at Inova Fairfax Hospital. He was flown there after suffering a head injury late Tuesday.

He was riding on the trunk of a moving Subaru driven by Khalid’s 18-year-old friend in a parking lot at Dulles Crossing Plaza in Sterling. When the car turned, the teen fell and was critically injured, the sheriff’s department says.

“(It) looked as though they were attempting stunts that they had seen in the movie ’21 Jump Street’,” Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman tells WTOP.

Chapman says it also looks like Khalid had been trying to film himself on two cellphones.

The sheriff says investigators are still reviewing all the evidence, and the unnamed driver could face charges.
