SBA disaster loans available in 3 Va. counties

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Small businesses in three Virginia counties that sustained losses because of rain and flooding in January have a month left to apply for federal disaster loans.

The U.S. Small Business Administration is making economic injury disaster loans available in Grayson, Halifax and Mecklenburg counties.

The counties are eligible because they’re adjacent to at least one primary county in North Carolina where a federal disaster declaration was issued. The SBA says disasters don’t usually stop at county or state lines.

Most private non-profits of any size that sustained financial losses can apply for the loans, along with small agricultural cooperatives and small businesses engaged in aquaculture.

Low-interest loans of up to $2 million are available. The deadline for submitting loan applications is Sept. 8.
