Suspect in Roanoke motel shooting dies

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A man accused of firing a rifle from the roof of a Roanoke motel has died.

The Roanoke Sheriff’s Office tells media outlets that 43-year-old Sean Michael Lovelace was found unresponsive in his cell at the Roanoke City Jail around 4 a.m. Wednesday. Lovelace was taken to a hospital in Roanoke, where he died around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Police arrested the Roanoke resident following the May 14 shooting at the Starlite Motel. No one was injured.

A Roanoke grand jury indicted Loveland on several weapons charges. His trial had been scheduled for Oct. 21.
