Red Sox activate Johnson off 15-day DL

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Boston Red Sox activated utilityman Kelly Johnson off the 15-day disabled list from a strained left groin and optioned rookie Mookie Betts to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Johnson was not in the lineup Thursday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. He was acquired from the Yankees on the trade deadline for Stephen Drew and played two rehab games with Double-A Portland.

Johnson batted .219 with six homers and 22 RBIs in 77 games with New York.

The 21-year-old Betts batted .244 with a homer and two RBIs in 13 games.
