Hofland wins second stage at Tour of Utah

TOOELE, Utah (AP) — Moreno Hofland won his second stage in three days at the Tour of Utah, out-sprinting a host rivals after a flat, windy stage at Miller Motorsports Park on Wednesday.

The field caught a group of riders who made an early breakaway in the closing miles, and Hofland’s Belkin team took charge heading to the finish line. Andrea Palini of Lampre-Merida was second and Eric Young of Optum finished third.

SmartStop’s Jure Kocjan finished safely in the peloton, keeping the overall leader’s jersey.

The fourth stage Thursday will take riders on a 105-mile trek from Ogden to Powder Mountain and the first summit finish of the Tour of Utah. The six-mile, 3,000-foot ascent should shake up the overall standings and provide the favorites with their first chance to shine.
