Toms withdraws from PGA with injury

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Former champion David Toms has withdrawn from the PGA Championship because of a back injury.

He was replaced in the field by Shawn Stefani.

Toms won the PGA Championship in 2001 by making par from the fairway on the 18th hole at Atlanta Athletic Club to beat Phil Mickelson by one shot. Toms holds the major championship scoring record at 265.

Stefani, who lost in a playoff at the Quicken Loans National in June, will be playing the PGA Championship for the first time.
