Va. mother charged after son found in street

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — Police in Newport News have charged a woman whose son was found wandering in a street alone.

Media outlets reports 25-year-old Kristy McClemmy was charged with felony child neglect Friday.

Police spokeswoman Holly McPherson says officers found the 5-year-old boy in a street by himself at about 2 a.m. Officers then began searching the neighborhood and located McClemmy with a male friend at a home.

Police say McClemmy and her son lived in a detached garage at the home.

McClemmy is being held without bond in the Newport News City Jail. The boy has been turned over to Child Protective Services.
