John Force leads Funny Car qualifying

KENT, Wash. (AP) — John Force topped Funny Car qualifying Friday after the first two sessions in the NHRA Northwest Nationals.

The 65-year-old Force had a run of 4.085 seconds at 308.07 mph in his Ford Mustang. A two-time winner this season, he has a record seven victories at Pacific Raceways.

“(Crew chief) Jimmy Prock’s been real consistent with this Ford,” Force said. “It’s running real good. Temperatures started dropping real fast and Jimmy stepped it up.”

Tony Schumacher led the Top Fuel field, and Allen Johnson topped the Pro Stock division. Schumacher had a 3.804 at 318.32, and Johnson ran a 6.535 at 211.86 in a Dodge Dart.
