Transgender girl stabbed on Metro train

WASHINGTON — A man has been charged with stabbing a young transgender woman on a Metro train in Wednesday afternoon.

The Metro Transit police say Reginald Klaiber, 24, stabbed a 15-year-old transgender girl on a southbound Green Line train as it approached the Fort Totten station at around 4:30. They say in a statement that he stabbed her in the back after making “bias-motivated remarks about the victim’s transgender status.”

She was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening stab wound. Klaiber has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and could face enhanced penalties for a hate crime, which could see his sentence multiplied 1 1/2 times.
