NEW DELHI (AP) — Authorities in western India say rescuers are trying to find survivors among about 40 houses buried by a landslide in a small village. It’s feared that more than 150 people may be trapped.

The village (Ambe) is about 90 miles southeast of Mumbai. The collapse is blamed on monsoon rains that drenched the hilly area.

Rainfall has been so intense that reaching the village has been hampered by roads that have been washed out. Communication is also spotty because of poor telephone and cellphone connectivity.

Landslides are common in the area during the monsoon season, which runs from June through September.
