RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The city of Richmond has agreed to pay $12,000 to settle alleged violations of Clean Water Act regulations that protect waterways from polluted stormwater runoff.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says the city has agreed to pay the penalty to settle the alleged violations related to its storm sewer system.

The city also has notified the EPA that it is now in compliance with the applicable regulations.

The EPA says uncontrolled stormwater runoff often contains oil and grease, chemicals, nutrients and other pollutants.

Officials say the alleged violations include failing to obtain certain required industrial stormwater permits, prevent certain materials from exposure to precipitation and implement an employee training program.
