Police kill knife-wielding man at Maryland bank

WASHINGTON — A man is dead after being shot by a police officer during an altercation in Montgomery County, according to police.

Around noon, police were called to the Capital One Bank on Arliss Street in Silver Spring, Maryland for reports that a man was trespassing.

The man, identified as Donovan Bayton, age 54, was “acting erratically” and waving around two knives while threatening the safety of officers, say police. An officer shot him in the torso after he didn’t listen to orders to drop the knives.

As is standard procedure, the two officers involved are on paid administrative leave during the course of the investigation. Their identities will be released Wednesday.
