Food trucks rules would expand their Fairfax County locations

WASHINGTON — Proposed zoning changes in Fairfax County could mean food trucks would be allowed to visit office buildings, shopping centers and construction sites.

Currently, the cost of obtaining a food truck permit and other fees in the county is about $16,000, which some see as prohibitive. With the proposed changes, that cost could drop to lower than $200.

A planning commission public hearing is expected on Wednesday, July 30.

If the proposal passes, food trucks won’t be allowed to set up on public roads, only on county-owned or private property.

Here’s a look at the proposed changes.
