Padres’ Despaigne loses no-hit bid in 8th vs. Mets

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Odrisamer Despaigne of the San Diego Padres lost a no-hit bid with two outs in the eighth inning when Daniel Murphy of the New York Mets doubled.

Despaigne had struck out five, walked three and hit two batters before Murphy’s hit. The Padres, who have never thrown a no-hitter in franchise history, held a 1-0 lead at Petco Park.
