Md. hiker hospitalized after snake bite

FREDERICK, Md. – Frederick County authorities say a hiker is under medical observation after he was bitten by a snake at Cunningham Falls State Park near Thurmont.

Fire and Rescue Services Lt. George Thomas tells the Frederick News-Post (http://bit.ly/1u7iNuQ ) that the man called 911 at about 7 p.m. Sunday to say he was bitten on a trail in the park’s Manor Area off U.S. 15.

Thomas says the man was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for observation.

He says it’s not clear what kind of snake bit the man. But Thomas says the park is home to rattlesnakes and copperheads. Both are venomous.
