James River body found near where man disappeared

JAMESTOWN, Va. (AP) — Authorities are investigating a body found in the James River near the area where a boater disappeared over the weekend.

Laurie Naismith with the Virginia Marine Resources Commission tells media outlets that a jet skier found the body Sunday evening near the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry dock.

She couldn’t say whether the body is that of the missing boater.

Surry County Sheriff Alvin Clayton says a boat was found Saturday morning near Chippokes Plantation State Park. A woman found floating in the water was taken to a hospital.

A man’s wallet and a cell phone were found on the boat. Crews searched Saturday and Sunday for the missing man.
