Courthouse renovations planned in Frederick County

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Officials are renovating the Frederick County courthouse to create a bigger room for certain hearings.

The Frederick News-Post (http://bit.ly/1u2GSCQ ) reports the project to expand a hearing room for domestic relations proceedings is expected to cost about $510,000. The county’s chief of project management says construction is expected to begin in about seven months. The renovations are aimed at fixing security concerns and other problems with the current, smaller room that’s being used.

The renovations will put the hearings in what is now the jury assembly room. The jury assembly room, law library and canteen will also move as part of the project.

Officials say they don’t expect any major disruptions to courthouse business during the six months of construction.
