WASHINGTON — Police arrested a Northern Virginia doctor as part of a drug investigation Tuesday.

A narcotics task force went to the Neurological Center of Northern Virginia in Woodbridge on Tuesday to serve a warrant and arrest Dr. Samad Oraee, a McLean resident.

The arrest was part of a bigger drug sting that was intended to get heroin and prescription pain medications off the street.

Prince William County police spokesman Jonathan Perok says detectives from the Prince William-Manassas-Manassas Park Narcotics Task Force learned that Oraee, a licensed physician, was allegedly writing prescriptions for pain killers to patients without doing any medical exams.

Perok says Oraee’s arrest was part of the recent “Dragon Slayer Operation” that targeted distributers of prescription pain medications and heroin. “Dragon” is one of the street names for heroin.

The bulk of the drug sting operation was carried out between June 24 and June 26. Police arrested 68 people.

Oraee is charged with two counts of prescription fraud and was released on $5,000 bond.
