Seong shoots 64 for low medalist

DUPONT, Wash. (AP) — Eun Jeong Seong shot an 8-under-par 64 Tuesday to win medalist honors at the U.S. Women’s Public Links Championship.

The 14-year-old South Korean had eight birdies and the rest pars at The Home Course to set tournament records for lowest round and lowest two-round total, 134.

Seong is playing in her second USGA championship, having missed the cut at the 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur. She will be competing in match play for the first time beginning Wednesday.

Countrywoman Soobin Kim was in a five-way tie for second at 138, adding a 68 to her opening 70. Also at 138 were Dominique Galloway, Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Gabriella Then, Rancho Cucamonga, California; Alana Uriell, Carlsbad, California; and Caroline Inglis, Eugene, Oregon.

The round was delayed by an hour in the morning by fog.
