Rays activate McGee from paternity list

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays have activated reliever Jake McGee from the paternity list and optioned right-hander Jeremy Hellickson to Double-A Montgomery.

The moves were announced before Sunday’s game against Toronto.

McGee missed two games after his wife gave birth to a daughter on Thursday.

Hellickson is coming back after arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow in January, and the move allows him to pitch during the All-Star break Monday in a minor league game at Pensacola.

He gave up one run and six hits in 4 1-3 innings against Kansas City in his first big league game this season on Tuesday.
