NEW YORK (AP) — New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is announcing that he’s taking a 10-day vacation to Italy.

The mayor will be joined by his wife and their two teenage children, and he’ll pay his family’s expenses. They’ll visit the ancestral villages of his grandparents and tour Rome, Venice and Naples.

City officials say the family will depart on next Friday and return July 27.

De Blasio took office in January. This is the longest vacation by a New York City mayor in recent memory.

City officials said that de Blasio will check in on city business while in Italy.

First Deputy Mayor Anthony Shorris will be in charge of daily city functions while the mayor is away.
