BALTIMORE (AP) — U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is visiting Baltimore to promote efforts to ensure that low-income children who rely on subsidized meals during the school year can also receive meals during the summer.

Vilsack was to join Lt. Governor Anthony Brown and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake at Hamilton Elementary and Middle School on Friday.

The mayor’s office says local, state and federal officials are calling for changes in Summer Meals Program regulations to permit summer meals sites to serve three meals per day. The program currently serves food twice a day to Baltimore City youth, many of whom qualify for free or reduced-cost meals during the school year.
