BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore’s B&O Railroad Museum is putting a 217-ton steam locomotive aboard a train for a nearly 140-mile trip to Cumberland.

The engine and its 104-ton coal tender have been acquired by the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad for use on passenger trains.

The scenic railroad says CSX Corp. will use specialized flat cars to haul the massive machine across central and western Maryland.

Baldwin locomotive No. 1309 was built in in 1949. The scenic railroad says it was the last commercially built steam engine made by Philadelphia- based Baldwin Locomotive Works for use in the United States.

The locomotive was used by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Co. to haul coal mined in the eastern United States.
