Did Ryan Gosling try to have his onscreen sweetheart fired from “The Notebook?”

The answer seems to be yes.

Director Nick Cassavetes has revealed that the former couple almost came to blows one day while filming the romantic movie. Gosling approached Cassavetes about replacing Rachel McAdams, but the director had something else in mind.
