Body found in Carroll County storm drain

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a storm drain in Westminster.

Troopers say about 11 a.m. Thursday, a business owner mowing his lawn saw a body in a storm drain between businesses along Route 140. The man was identified was 54-year-old Robert L. Hawk, and police say his last known address was in Sykesville.

Investigators say Hawk appears to have crawled about four feet into a drainage pipe, but did not appear to have been trapped. Police said there were no obvious signs of trauma.

Authorities say Hawk had been seen stumbling around a nearby shopping center parking lot Wednesday morning.

Hawk’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy.
