New students at Naval Academy arrive

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — More than 1,200 new students have arrived at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Induction Day for the class of 2018 is taking place Tuesday in Annapolis, Maryland.

The incoming freshmen, who are known as plebes at the school, will get their uniforms and have medical examinations. They also get haircuts and learn how to salute.

They then will take part in an oath of office ceremony at 6 p.m. After the ceremony, the students will meet with their families for the last time until Plebe Parent’s weekend in August.
