Giants’ Pagan to see back specialist after setback

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Giants center fielder Angel Pagan is scheduled to be examined by a specialist in Los Angeles after having a setback in his recovery from a back injury.

Pagan was eligible to come off the disabled list before the Giants opened a three-game series against St. Louis on Tuesday night. He says he was running Monday when a “minor setback” occurred. He will see a specialist Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Pagan says he has a bulging disc in his back that is pinching a nerve and causing pain in his legs. He says he’s had multiple injections, but nothing is bringing relief. Pagan says surgery is not an option right now and he’s seeking a better plan from doctors.

Pagan is batting .307 with three home runs and 19 RBIs in 63 games this season.
