Tree falls on car, killing 2 kids in back seat

JEROME, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in Pennsylvania say a falling tree landed on a moving car, killing two of the four children sitting in the back seat.

Police in Somerset County tell the Daily American (http://bit.ly/T4QMCZ ) that the car was in Conemaugh (KAHN’-uh-mah) Township when the tree fell Monday afternoon.

Coroner Wallace Miller says two children died of blunt force trauma.

Conemaugh Township Police Chief Louis Barclay identified the victims as 8-year-old Ryleigh Freiwald and 6-year-old Mikayla Freiwald, sisters who are believed to be from the Johnstown area.

Police say the male driver, a pregnant woman and the other two children were injured and taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, where their condition was unavailable.

Barclay says the tree was rotted at the base, and all indications are “it was just a freak accident.”
