Reds 2B Phillips out with heel injury

CHICAGO (AP) — Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is out of the starting lineup for Cincinnati’s game against the Chicago Cubs because of a bruised right heel.

Manager Bryan Price says Phillips is day to day. Skip Schumaker got the start at second in the series opener at Wrigley Field on Monday night.

Phillips got hurt on a backswing during Sunday’s 4-3 victory over Toronto. He left in the fifth inning.

Phillips, who turns 33 on Saturday, is batting .274 with five homers and 33 RBIs in 72 games this year.
