FIFA picks Pitana for Switzerland-Honduras

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — FIFA has picked Nestor Pitana of Argentina to referee Switzerland’s final Group E game against Honduras on Wednesday.

A Swiss win in Manaus would probably secure a second round match against Argentina, which currently leads Group F.

Pitana will be working his third World Cup match, after Russia-South Korea and United States-Portugal.

FIFA says Group E leader France’s match against second-place Ecuador will be refereed by Noumandiez Doue of Ivory Coast. The match is played in Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

Also Wednesday, Argentina vs. Nigeria will be refereed by Italian Nicola Rizzoli in Porto Alegre.

FIFA has picked Carlos Velasco Carballo of Spain to handle Iran vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina in Salvador.
