3 Marines based at Lejeune killed in Afghanistan

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (AP) — The Defense Department reports that three Marines based at Camp Lejeune died last week while fighting in Afghanistan.

The military identified the three men as 34-year-old Staff Sgt. David Stewart of Stafford, Virginia; 19-year-old Lance Cpl. Brandon Garabrant of Peterborough, New Hampshire; and 25-year-old Lance Cpl. Adam Wolff of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

All three were killed Friday in what the military described as a “hostile incident” in Helmand province. They were all assigned to the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion (Forward) in the 2nd Marine Division.

Stewart most recently deployed to Afghanistan in April, while Garabrant and Wolff deployed in March.
