Washington-area workers among the nation’s most satisfied

Greater Washington workers might not feel “like a room without a roof,” but they are happier than employees in most other big cities.

The region is tied for third in employment satisfaction among 50 metros, according to a survey by job search and recruitment firm Glassdoor.

Washington’s score is 3.4 on a five-point scale. San Francisco, Salt Lake City and Norfolk, Virginia, have similar scores, while San Jose, California, edges the pack at 3.5.

But the most and least satisfied workers are separated by just a razor’s margin, with the bottom 10 cities scoring 3.1.

Washington ranked fifth in career opportunities with a 3.1 rating. Three quarters of employees said they expect business to get better or stay the same in the next six months.

The most in-demand jobs here? Java developers, business analyst and technical writers.

Not a politician in sight.
