NEW YORK (AP) — Glenn Britt, the former CEO of Time Warner Cable who oversaw its split from Time Warner Inc. in 2009, has died. He was 65.

Rob Marcus, who took over as chief executive in January after Britt retired, said Britt died of cancer Wednesday at his home in New York.

Britt joined Time Inc. in 1972 in the controller’s department and rose through the ranks, working in cable, books and at HBO.

He had served as the top executive at Time Warner Cable Inc.’s since August 2001, helping grow its annual revenue from $6 billion to $22 billion last year.

Britt is credited with overseeing the launch of the high-speed Internet service Road Runner as well as driving the deployment of digital video recorders, high-definition service and video on demand.
