BRISTOL, Va. (AP) — Virginia regulators have issued a notice of violation to the BVU Authority for a grease spill that killed nearly 3,000 fish in Little Creek.

Interim CEO Mike Bundy tells the Bristol Herald Courier (http://bit.ly/1nhNK9n ) that the company will develop a remediation plan to prevent future spills.

Bundy says a preliminary investigation found that an accumulation of grease caused an overflow at a manhole.

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality says in a letter sent to the company that 2,983 fish were killed with about a mile of Little Creek. The newspaper says it obtained the letter through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The department’s Southwest Virginia regional manager, Allen Newman, says a formal report on the spill and investigation will be issued in the coming months.
