Tax-free hurricane prep purchases ends Saturday night

WASHINGTON — Virginians who still want to stock up on batteries, bottled water and other supplies for the hurricane season and get a tax break have only a few more hours to do it.

A sales tax holiday has been going on all week in Virginia for items that also include flashlights, first-aid kits, and bigger-ticket items such as generators priced at $1,000 or less. But it ends today, Saturday, at midnight.
