Sabres sign 3rd-round draft pick, OHL F Baptiste

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Sabres have signed prospect forward Nicholas Baptiste to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Baptiste was selected in the third round (69th overall) in the NHL draft last year. He spent the past three seasons playing for Sudbury of the Ontario Hockey League.

Baptiste set career bests with 45 goals, 44 assists and 89 points in 65 games last season, and tied for fourth among OHL goal-scorers. Overall, he has 74 goals and 164 points in 195 career games.

He also was a member of Canada’s Under-18 team that won the gold medal at the 2013 world championships.
