Minnesota school bus catches fire; no one hurt

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (AP) — A dramatic video shows flames engulfing a school bus in Minnesota, but no students were on board and the driver escaped unharmed.

The video shows the bus burning on an exit ramp off Interstate 94 in Maplewood Tuesday afternoon. Black plumes of smoke billow out the bus windows.

Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske says fire apparently began in the engine compartment.

KSTP-TV (http://bit.ly/1qVTc6r) reports the bus rolled toward a fire engine parked near the end of the ramp. Firefighters were able to get the truck out of the bus’ path.

Roeske says only the bus driver was on board. And the driver got off without getting hurt.

Firefighters put out the blaze about a half-hour after it started.

The bus is used by the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District.
