Elderly man dies in Beltway crash

WASHINGTON – An 90-year-old man died after running his car over a barrier on the Outer Loop of the beltway Saturday.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. along I-495 west of Georgia Avenue in Montgomery County. The car hit a cement barrier and struck a light pole, then went down an embankment.

The driver, James Wharton Eadie of Bethesda, died at the hospital.

Westbound I-495 was closed for about 2 hours and reopened just before 4 p.m. The investigation into the crash is continuing and anyone with information is asked to call the Maryland State Police rockville Barrack at (301) 424-2101.
