Dynamo hold on for 1-0 win over Columbus

HOUSTON (AP) — Will Bruin scored early in the second half, and the Houston Dynamo held on for a 1-0 win over the Columbus Crew on Wednesday for their second straight win.

Bruin gave Houston (4-4-2) the lead in the 50th minute with a header off Brad Davis’ free kick. Davis’ kick from outside the left box curled in front of the goal, and Bruin headed it in from just outside the 6-yard box for his sixth goal of the season.

Justin Meram missed tying the game by inches in the 84th minute as his shot from above the half-circle clanked off the near post and out. The Crew (3-3-3) are winless in six straight games.

Columbus’ best opportunity in the first half came in the 30th minute when Giancarlo Gonzalez had a shot from inside the goalkeeper’s box batted out on a one-handed save by Tally Hall. Jairo Arrieta tried to get a rebound in, but his shot was also stopped by Hall.
