Silver Line contractor: Work is complete

WASHINGTON – A big milestone has been reached on the Silver Line.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority says the project’s contractor has submitted paperwork that Phase One of the Silver Line has been substantially completed.

Dulles Transit Partners submitted similar paperwork in February, but inspectors disagreed with their finding.

However, sources tell WTOP that this time the airports authority will likely approve the project and turn it over to Metro before the end of the month, if not sooner.

Sources also tell WTOP that Metro is hoping to open the Silver Line by July 4.

Once Metro takes control of the Silver Line, it has up to 90 days to run more safety tests on the tracks.

The $2.6 billion project will extend Metro to Reston. A second phase will eventually take riders all the way to Dulles International Airport.
