BWI brings out big shovels for snow

BALTIMORE – Shoveling the sidewalk is one thing. Clearing a runway is something else entirely.

At Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, a crew of nearly 200 employees is releasing its snow-blowing fury on runways, taxiways and access roads.

In all, the goal is to clear 22.4 million square feet during the worst snowstorm in four years.

About 75 specialized vehicles plow, sweep and blow snow from the runways.
