WASHINGTON — A D.C. police officer charged with attacking his wife in November has been ordered to wear a home electronic monitoring device until his April trial.

Metropolitan Police Department Officer Samson Lawrence is also under house arrest. He must remain at his parents’ house 24 hours a day and is subject to random check-ins.

Lawrence is facing first-degree attempted murder charges after he allegedly sprayed Lysol in his wife’s face during an argument over hanging a projection TV in their home, officials say. When Lawrence’s wife refused to make him something to eat, he allegedly pushed her repeatedly.

Then, when she attempted to call 911, Lawrence grabbed the phone away from her, pushed her to the ground and hit her on the head with a metal light post, police say.

She tried to get away, but Lawrence allegedly cornered her and held two knives up to her face and throat, authorities say.

Lawrence’s wife was eventually able to escape to a neighbor’s house and call for help.

“I am pleased with Judge Wallace’s decision to place Mr. Lawrence on electronic monitoring,” says Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks in a statement.

“Anytime we have a case involving allegations like these, we believe it is important me make every effort to ensure the safety of victims.”
