Report: Facebook to develop a sympathy button

Facebook Inc. is reportedly working to develop a sympathy button as an alternative to the ‘like’ button in certain situations, according to The Telegraph.

The ‘like’ button has proven to be impractical for use on negative occasions such as divorce or death. The sympathy button would be prompted when an individual selects a negative emotion in their status update.

The idea for the sympathy button came from Facebook’s hackathon event.

It is still unclear when Facebook will roll-out this new feature to the public.
