WASHINGTON – The Montgomery County Council is giving itself a raise.
The council approved a 17.5 percent pay hike for those those who take office after elections next year, reports The Washington Post
The pay package will be doled out in annual increments of 6 percent to 6.5 percent over four years.
The council amended a committee’s recommendation in hopes of deflecting criticism from residents.
Instead of a recommended $125,000, council pay will be $113,310 as of December 2014.
Council members tell the Post that the complexity of the job and the power of social media have created unprecedented demands on their time and energy.
